Main research areas
Research at the Institute of Public Economics focuses on two main research areas: The main motivation of the first research area is to derive optimal public policies for current and future economic challenges such as economic transformation through Artificial Intelligence or the pursuit of sustainable and inclusive prosperity. This area also includes classic questions of public finance and optimal taxation.
The second research area focuses on the design of political institutions for maximum prosperity in societies and how fair collective decisions can be achieved in pluralistic and increasingly polarized societies. Methodologically, the Institute of Public Economics mainly designs and analyzes theoretical models, which are complemented by empirical analyses or numerical simulations where appropriate.
